Welcome

The Riverside Route is the fifth and newest of the Saints and Stones trails.  The original trail ‘Pilgrims from the Sea’ was set up in 1995 by Anne Eastham to give visitors and residents in the county access to some of the more remote and beautiful corners of Pembrokeshire and to the deep spiritual quality of these ancient places of worship.

The river Cleddau is known for boating and water sports but few people take a closer look at what the riverside villages have to offer. There is so much history to be found in many of the villages where mining, fishing and agriculture have formed the way of life for centuries.  The village churches are where everyone attended services to give thanks for there livelihood.

It is wonderful to be able to take time out of a busy working schedule or a sightseeing holiday to draw some strength from the peace and tranquillity of the settings of these sites. We can sit and imagine hundreds of years of history, people worshipping, marrying, of new life and death.  We can search in the graveyards where perhaps family research may be continued.

The Riverside Route has much to offer everyone whether it is walking, cycling, boating or driving.  There are woods and the shore to explore. There are public houses en route, some of which have magnificent views, and good food. Discover new places in Pembrokeshire that have been hidden from visitors until now.
